Toxic properties of the plants will be posted on this page.
The Aspca has a fairly comprehensive list of plants that are toxic to pets. Many of our plants are on this list. It seems the best practice for having healthy plants and healthy pets is to keep them away from each other. Fortunately, my dog does not snack on plants.
My research into plants poisonous to humans has returned contradictory results but according to the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy the following plants are non poisonous to humans.
Chrysanthemum may cause rash or skin irritation
Mother-in-law tongue may cause rash or skin irritation
Palms
Schefflera
Spider Plant
Plants that are listed as poisonous include
Dumbcane
Philodendron
Pothos - Sap is irritant to skin and mucous membranes in humans. Toxic only if large
quantity is eaten. Oxalate crystals are poisonous to pets.
I also found a comprehensive list of plants at http://www.anapsid.org/resources/plants-ag.html. This list will scare you away from plants forever. I think it important to keep in mind that under normal circumstances, the poison is more of an irritant. Also, you must eat a lot of the plant to get sick, at least for humans.
